What are KNOTS on a full lace wig?

We receive several questions daily about "KNOTS" on Full Lace or Lace Front Wigs. In order to help our customers understand the process a little better, it is very useful to know the different knotting options and the pros and cons for each option.

Single Knots
Single knots are a popular option for full lace wigs. The process involves taking the hair, one strand at a time, and hand tying it into the lace unit using a single knot. The single knot produces a very realistic appearance, as if the hair is growing right out of the scalp. On the downside, single knots are not as secure which makes the full lace wig prone to shedding. You will have to be very gentle when combing your unit. This can result in bald patches on the wig, where the lace becomes visible.
Pros - Less visible upon closer inspection
Cons- Prone to shedding, more fragile

Double Knots
Double knots are achieved by using 2 or more strands of hair and securing them to the base (lace) at the same time.  Double knots are more visible upon closer inspection.  This option may not be as desirable if you are trying to create a realistic hairline, realistic parting or realistic crown.  On the up side, double knots are more secure than single knots, so shedding is less of an issue.
Pros - Less shedding, less fragile
Cons -More visible, realistic looking hairline harder to achieve

Triple/Reversed (Hidden knots) SILK TOP
The Triple/Reversed (Hidden) knot is one of the newest techniques.  Hair is taken and hand tied then it is inserted between silk and the lace base of the wig. The knot is tied 3 times, making it very secure and unlikely to shed. Because the knot is hidden between the lace and the silk insert, the knot becomes invisible, making it look as if the hair is growing out of your scalp when your wearing the wig.
Pros - Most natural looking hairline, parting and crown. Completely invisible knot
Cons -More expensive method.

Bleached Knots
Bleached knots are single or double knots that are bleached with peroxide (bleach) to lighten the appearance of the knot.
Pros - Knots less visible, more realistic hairline.
Cons -Weakens the knots, shedding may be an issue.

What is a Full Lace Wig?

After being in the business for a while, we have realized that a lot of customers do not do enough research on this product before they purchase and therefore end up asking a lot of the same questions. So we have decided to compile some information so that you won't have to do a lot of research. We hope that you find this information helpful.

What Are Full Lace Wigs?

Lace Wigs are wigs made to appear as your own growing hair. They are usually custom made to your own head measurements but can also be purchased pre-made (also called stock wigs). Each wig can normally take between 6-8 weeks to be made and shipped out to the customer depending on the market. They are made of the Highest Quality Indian, Chinese, or European Remy Hair (your choice of which), where the hairs are handtied onto a fragile lace base. Indian & Chinese Hairs being used to achieve African American Textures and European Hair being used to achieve Caucasian Texture (Indian Hairs may also be used for this texture as well). Each hair type can be chemically textured to your desire when placing your custom order.

Each of the hairs are hand-tied onto the lace, which is flesh-toned, to give the appearance of hairs growing out of your scalp when properly applied. Each of the handtied knots are bleached to aid in the illusion of the hairs growth. Think of a pair of pantyhose. You are able to go into the store and purchase them in any skin tone you like (just as you can do with the different caps of the lace wigs), then when you place them over your leg, it blends as your own skin, (also like the lace wig when placed over your head). Although the lace used for making lace wigs is fragile just as pantyhose, it is more durable than pantyhose, but the idea is still the same. Imagine each little hole on the pantyhose being used to tie single strands of hair onto. Then if you placed it over your skin, it would appear as your own skin, only with hair hanging down. Add a flesh toned wig cap underneath to cover your own hair if you have any and you now have the concept of the lace wig!

These wigs are seen on television, movies, and stageplays quite often. Many of todays hottest celebrities are wearing them from Beyonce, Tyra Banks, Patti LaBelle, Mary J Blige, and even Jennifer Hudson! These wigs were very big in the movies Dream Girls and White Chicks where the Wayans Brothers played two beautiful women and wore blonde wigs. Yes, they were lace wigs!

These wigs are perfect for hairloss patients, women on the go, women in the entertainment industry, or any woman who just wants a change without dealing with the stress on their own hair. How To Correctly Take Your Measurements for Your Lace Wig

Before you start, make sure it is all pinned up and lying flat (with or without a wig cap), or braided before taking the measurements. Make sure your current hair is prepared the same way you would have it right before applying the wig. This will eliminate bulges that distort head contours. Use a tape measure. Do not stretch the tape. Take your measurements at least three times to ensure accuracy. *Make sure when you take your measurements, that you place your measuring tape outside of your natural hairline.

Circumference of the Head Measure all around the head. Position tape measurer so its edge follows the hairline around the head and nape of the neck.

Forehead to Nape of Neck Measure from hairline at center of forehead straight back over crown to center of hairline at nape of neck.

Ear to Ear Across Front Hairline At front of ear, measure from hairline at base of sideburn, up across the hairline along forehead to same point in front of other ear.

Ear to Ear Measure from hairline directly above the ear across top of head to the hairline directly above the other ear.

Temple to Temple From temple to temple across the back of head.

Nape of Neck Measure the width of hairline across the nape of the neck.
